Owner and Head Coach of Ohana Jiu-Jitsu, Brown Belt Matthew Perreira, talks about his BJJ journey and what Ohana means to him.
BJJ promotes the concept that a smaller, “weaker“ person can successfully defend themselves against a stronger, heavier assailant. By using proper technique, leverage, and taking the fight to the ground, the BJJ practitioner can apply joint locks, and chokeholds to defeat their opponent. BJJ training can be used for sport grappling tournaments and in self-defense situations. Sparring (commonly referred to as "rolling" within the BJJ community) plays a major role in training. A premium is placed on individual performance, in relation to progress and ascension through the BJJ rank system.
Jiu-Jitsu is ideal for both boys and girls, and can help children improve fitness, garner new socialization opportunities and have fun with fitness. At Ohana Jiu-Jitsu, your child will:
1. Learn discipline and respect
2. Gain confidence through self defense training and competition
